IFEW Presentation Dinner held in Sydney

The Islamic Foundation for Education & Welfare (IFEW) annual Presentation Dinner held at DaarulIslam Bonnyrigg in Sydney’s west on 11 December.

IFEW was founded in 1987 by Dr. Qazi Ashfaq Ahmad OAM (1930-2022) since then it operates to address current issues through education, information dissemination and welfare projects.  IFEW a not for profit community based organization.

The program began by welcome speech and introduction followed by President Mr. Zohair Ahmad presentation of the life history of Dr. Ahmad, his journey from India to Australia. His significant achievement through establishing various community based organizations in Australia. He was a role model for Australian Muslim community and a family man.

Dr. Ahmad initiated inter-faith and intra-faith dialogues; inter-cultural activities that helped to create cohesiveness and harmony in the community and gave academic guidance to new migrants to Australia.  

After Zohair’s insightful presentation of Dr. Ahmad, Ms. Tu Le, Community worker, advocate and organizer spoke about community involvement.  She is also a Labor candidate for Fowler in upcoming state election in March 2023.

Mr. Nabeel Ansari, the founder of Noble Clinical Rehabilitation presented his rehabilitation services to the Australian communities.  Ms. Shaffaq Jaffery and Ms. Kiran Mushraf spoke about Australian Pakistani Women Association and their activities, particularly in the field of helping domestic violence victims in the community.

Multicultural Eid Festival and Fair (MEFF) which was established in 1986 by Dr. Ahmad after realizing that Eid was celebrated only in private homes and he wanted Eid should be celebrated in larger gatherings. MEFF began its celebration at a small playground of Bonnirigg Public School, Today; MEFF is part ofAustralian Multicultural identity and celebrated in collaboration with various multicultural communities, showcasing Australia’s diversity and promoted cohesion and understanding between communities.

MEFF 2022 was a great success, around 20,000 people attended despite last minute preparations due to pandemic uncertainty.  MEFF 2022 modeled “Free Entry and Free Parking” which was pioneered by its founding father. The President of MEFF Hanif Bismi highlighted in his speech.

Ms. Mehr Ahmad presented the activities of Seena Incorporated.  Seena publishes AMUST, Australia’s award-winning English newspaper.  Seena is a registered non-profit volunteer-based association.  It renders social services to the community at large and develops web media skills for people with disability, women and people from diverse backgrounds.

Program concluded with prayers and dinner.
