National cultural heritage of Azerbaijan celebrated in Sydney

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan Associations in Australia organized national cultural heritage concert in Castle Hill Sydney on 20 December as part of 100th years anniversary of Azerbaijan’s national leader Heydar Aliyev (10 May 1923 – 12 Dec 2003).

The leaders of the associations received the guests at Pioneer Theater in Castle Hill with other Azerbaijan community leaders.

The program began with the national anthem of Azerbaijan and Australia followed by the speech by His Excellency Mr. Vagif Jaferov, the Chargé d’Affaires of Azerbaijan mission in Australia. His Excellency highlighted the sacrifice of Heydar Aliyevfor Azerbaijan that proclaimed its independence on 30 August 1991from the former Soviet Union.

Turkish consul general His Excellency Mr. and Mrs.Ali Sevim were the chief guests for the event.  Also other prominent community leaders were also present.

The cultural concert showcased one of the classical compositions from Azerbaijan known as Karabakh Mugham Group. Mugham is a highly complex art form, a combination of classical poetry and musical compose with specific local modes with four men performers. The packed crowd of Azerbaijan diaspora and invited guests present in the theater cheered and sung along with the group.

The program was a successful event for both the Azerbaijan diaspora in Sydney and others to understand Azerbaijan culture and arts.
