Saudi Arabia allows first-ever women in National Day parade

To celebrate the renaming of the country in 1932, Saudi Arabia celebrated on Thursday with the annual National Day military parade – and for the first time ever, women took part.

Female recruits were allowed into the Saudi armed forces for the first time in February this year, including in combat roles, although they cannot be married to foreign citizens.

The decision comes as part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 initiative to improve gender equality.
