Special forces, police and national guard fired at abandoned buildings and launched grenades and mortars during urban combat drills in the town of Pripyat, which has been deserted since the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
“This was a battle with irregular militias in (an) urban environment,” one soldier told local media after the exercises last week.
The drills come at a time when NATO threatens expansion into Eastern Europe and the West readies sanctions against Russia for an invasion, which is yet to happen.
